Have you ever wondered how to create a free resource library on your website? I’ve got you covered!
In today’s blog post, I’m talking about how you can create a password-protected page on your WordPress website to give exclusive access to your email list subscribers.
What is a free resource library?
A free resource library is a page or post on your website that includes a collection of resources, information, or recommendations for your visitors. This page is typically password-protected and exclusive to your email list subscribers.
Why do you need a free resource library to grow your email list?
One of the best ways to grow your email list is to offer a free download (a.k.a, freebie) in exchange for a visitor subscribing to your email list. A free resource library sweetens the deal by giving your subscribers not one but many free downloads or resources! Your subscribers receive more value than if they were to download just one freebie.
What are some freebies you can include in your free resource library?
While you ultimately get to decide which freebies you include in your page, you might find inspiration from the following ideas:
- Checklists
- PDF Downloads
- E-books and Guides
- Templates
- Presets
Step-by-step guide for how to create a free resource library on WordPress:
1 – Create Your Freebies
Before you start working on your resource library, you need to create your freebies. Digital downloads like e-books, checklists and printouts work best for this form of page.
Best practice? Save as a PDF file for longer-form content or save as a JPG/PNG for one-page content. Don’t forget to also save a “cover image” of your freebie, because this is what you’ll be using as a link.
2 – Upload Your Files to Your Website
Once you have your freebies created, you’ll need to save them and upload them to either your media library or remote storage like Google Drive or Amazon S3. This will allow you to keep them accessible with just a link.

Ready to get to the next level?
Imagine if you could build your business with ease, land your dream clients, and create a magnetic brand that showcases the incredible service you provide. It's time to create an unforgettable experience your dream clients will LOVE.
3 – Create a New Page on Your Website
Log into your WordPress dashboard and head over to Pages > Add New. Create a new page for your resource library. You can also get creative and brand it to your business. Names could be The Vault or Goodies. Save as a draft for now.
4 – Add Your Freebies to the Page
Now it’s time to start adding your freebies to your new page! One simple method is to upload a cover image for each freebie and then link the image to your file URL.
5 – Publish Page with Password
Once you’ve added all of your resources to your page, you’re ready to publish your page! Since this page will be exclusive to your email list subscribers, you’ll want to make sure that there’s a password needed to enter. Head to Visibility > Password Protected. Enter your password of choice and publish your page.
6 – Send Password to Your Email List
It’s time to send your resource library page and password to your email list!
